What it does

Sowbot is an open-hardware agricultural robot platform designed to bridge the "prototype gap" in agricultural robotics. It provides a Reference Hardware Design and a Production-Ready Software Stack built on ROS2 and RTK GPS. The robot's "brain" is a fully open-hardware compute unit built around a stackable 10 cm × 10 cm module standard with two Avaota A1 Single Board Computers (SBC) connected via a single ethernet cable. Board A handles control and safety (ROS 2 navigation stack, topological mapping, EKF localization, real-time path planning, emergency stop), while Board B handles perception and AI (camera drivers, image pre-processing, neural network inference like YOLO). The system includes dual GNSS RTK receivers for centimetre-scale positioning, native CAN bus support, and is housed in a rugged, waterproof aluminium enclosure with M12 connectors. The robot body integrates high-performance motors, precise control, long-lasting sodium-ion batteries (suitable for low-temperature charging), and rugged suspension into a fully modular, open-hardware chassis. Sowbot also offers two development platforms: Sowbot Mini (1/3 scale) and Sowbot Pico (smaller, lower-cost) for testing and validation.
